Recording
Setting $235,000 Collected
During "Fill The Boot"
Preliminary
Totals by Shift, Station and Battalion
Here are some other totals from the Jerry Lewis
Labor Day Telethon;
National Telethon raised a record $63,759,478, an increase
of $2,746,478 from 2006
DC area portion of the telethon raised a record $1,759,076,
an increase of $249,076 from 2006
I.A.F.F. raised a record $25,230,000, an increase of $1,730,000
from 2006
Fairfax, VA I.A.F.F. Local 2068 raised a record $535,000,
an increase of $184,000 from 2006 and became this year's top
fire department in the country. Congratulations to them!!!!!!!
Montgomery County raised a record $235,000, an increase of
$177,000 from 2006
Here is a list of what the money raised in M.C. can do for
the Muscular Dystrophy Association;
Provide 9,400 Flu Shots
Provide 2,765 minutes of research
Provide 2,350 Support Group Sessions
Provide wheelchairs, leg braces or communication devices to
117 people
Most importantly, send 362 children to summer camp
As you can see this was a record breaking year for the Muscular
Dystrophy Association Labor Day Telethon. The only true winners
of all the money raised are the children and adults who suffer
from 1 of the more than 40 forms of MD. Our goal here in Montgomery
County was to raise $200,000 and compete with Fairfax County.
We met both of our goals!!!! We may or may not ever beat Fairfax
County, but we have proven that we can compete on the same
level as them now. Thanks again to President John Sparks,
Fire Chief Tom Carr, Division Chief Bowers and County Executive
Ike Leggett. In regards to competing with Fairfax County keep
in mind that they conduct their "Fill the Boot"
campaign for 4 days, have a few more stations than Montgomery
County, apparatus staffing is higher then ours, and they have
a well established "Fill the Boot" program in place.
A lot was learned from our 1st year of conducting our "Fill
the Boot" campaign while on duty, both good and bad.
We will take what was learned and put it towards improving
next years campaign.
Our goal for next year will be the same as what Jerry Lewis
asks for each year for his telethon to be considered a success;
that is to raise at least $1 more than the previous year,
everything else is a bonus. If $200,000 was what was needed
to reach that $1 more mark this year, $35,000 is a pretty
terrific bonus!!!! Everyone involved should be VERY PROUD
of what was accomplished this year!!!!!!!
